In the sticks

June 14th, 2008

I thought we were moving to the suburbs. But we moved to a suburbanizing area, which means we live in the middle of a wheat field with a Safeway two miles away. Behind us are the San Tan Mountains and in front of us is a road, a corn field, and more mountains. The sunsets are incredible.

Other bonuses of living in a rurban area: patchy internet access and cell phone signals, a scorpion greeting us from the bathroom floor on the first night, quail and cottontail rabbits frolicking in the front yard, and tumbleweeds rolling across the road.

E decided she liked the way New York keeps time, so she had me up at 3:30 am for the first four days. We’ve finally reached a wake-up compromise of 5:30 am. That time works for two reasons. First, summer mornings in Arizona are relatively cool. Emphasis on relatively.

Second, I recently read Shopping for Time and concluded that the Lord is providentially using E to help me join the 5 AM Club. So bring on that Arizona sunrise, a cup of Joe, and the Bible!

welcome to the desert. scorpions in the bathroom don’t sound too spiffy, but the rest of it sounds mighty nice to me! Won’t be long till you’re enjoying the sunrise over Table Rock Lake and viewing the green majesty of the Ozarks! Nine days and a wake up!

Thanks for linking to the Mahaney women’s blog! I hadn’t come across it before, but it looks great. I was convicted about getting up earlier when I looked at that book a while back, but since Tommy was still waking me up super early to eat, I didn’t find it applicable. Now I’m re-inspired!
