Those two

Friday, January 8th, 2010

A long time ago, at a college far, far away, two guys met. The first guy was a freshman who was asked by a professor to entertain a prospective student. The second guy was the prospective student. They clicked. They later became roommates, joined the same fraternity, served as best-man in each other’s weddings, attended law schools in New York, and welcomed first-born daughters.

The daughters met last year. And again this year. They clicked.

It’s left me wondering what the rest of their story will look like…

Old friends, new friends

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Our dear friends, the Franciscos, visited last weekend. Although we only saw with them for a day, the time was rich. The men fell into conversation as if they had never been apart (are all old college roommates that way?) and Christina and I managed to talk about most every subject, browse the local Anthropologie, and cook several meals. I also enlisted her excellent stylist skills to help with E and Baby2’s nursery design. (More on that to come later). I was particularly blessed, however, with how much Scripture naturally came up in her speech and how much she clearly loved life. She left me inspired to make Scripture a part of my vocabulary and to enjoy each day as a wonderful gift from God.

A highlight of the visit was introducing our daughters. The last time we saw the Franciscos, their daughter Geneva was six months old and I was newly pregnant with E. Geneva is now nearly two and the sweetest, mildest, happiest little girl you’ll ever meet. She and E got along well. Of course, they went through the usual stages of toddler friendship…

A first birthday party

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

We threw E a small party on Sunday. Following my mom’s tradition, she was allowed a friend for each year she’s lived. So she invited Ethan, and I invited his parents because what are infant birthday parties but opportunities for grown-ups to hang out? ::grin::

We shared brunch (crustless quiche, fruit salad, juice, and toasted English muffins), sang to E, and ate Blackberry Upside-Down Cake. E was nonplussed by the birthday song. She liked eating cake and opening presents, but mostly enjoyed playing with Ethan. And there you have the priorities of a one-year-old.
